26 August 2010

Nikko Asset Management (AM) has hired Blair Pickerell as head of Asia and global chief marketing officer.

According to the firm, the new post holder, who has previously worked for HSBC and Morgan Stanley, will be responsible for developing its worldwide branding strategy.

The new employee, who worked for Morgan Stanley as chief executive officer of its investment management business in Asia for three years, will help the Japan-based fund manager expand its business throughout Asia.

Mr Pickerell said: “The favourable demographics, continued deregulation, and ongoing economic success of Asia suggest that this region will be one of the leading generators of wealth in the coming decades. “

He added that Nikko AM is well placed to “become the leading investment management firm headquartered in Asia”.

His experience includes working for HSBC Asset Management as chief executive of its Asia Pacific division and for Jardine Fleming Unit Trusts as chairman.

The firm currently has over $106 billion in assets under management.

Nikko AM was the first asset management business not based in China to offer a China A-share fund to investors.
