RiskAdvisory, a division of business analytics leader SAS, today announced the hiring of Charlie Sanchez as an Energy Trading & Risk Management (ETRM) Industry Consultant focusing on oil and gas trading operations.
Sanchez comes to RiskAdvisory with over 11 years of experience in the energy industry. He held several senior positions with the international energy commodity risk management services consultancy Gelber & Associates, including Vice President for Energy Markets, Director for Energy Risk & Trading, and Quantitative Analyst/Energy Commodities Broker. Most recently, he served as Director of Risk Controls with SourceGas LLC, a natural gas local distribution utility headquartered in Lakewood, Colorado. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Rice University, completing a double major in Economics and Fine Arts.
âWe are delighted to add Charlie Sanchez to the SAS team,â said Karen Joslyn, the General Manager of RiskAdvisory. âAs Director of Risk Management at SourceGas in Denver, Charlie had oversight of commodity trading risk for both regulated affiliates and unregulated commodity marketing activity throughout the West. We believe our clients will benefit from both his deep background in energy risk issues and his front-line knowledge of the utilities industry as they respond to new requirements from regulators and new market inputs.â
Sanchez says his interest in RiskAdvisory is rooted in his direct experience with the SAS BookRunner ETRM solution and the RiskAdvisory team during his time at SourceGas. âThe software solution was an integral piece of preparing SourceGas for its acquisition-centric strategy,â he said. âBut it was the domain expertise brought by the team that was critical in empowering both the system and SourceGasâ use of new tools added with BookRunner. In SAS, we found the kind of rare partnership that most vendors struggle to achieve.â
In todayâs market, energy risk requirements change at break-neck speed, which demands increasing capacity from systems and greater expertise in risk aggregation and measurement. Sanchez says he recognized the full potency of the BookRunner solution through his firsthand experience of integrating disorganized data from multiple platforms, including systems not directly related to energy trading.
âThe RiskAdvisory team has proven its dominance in risk aggregation with BookRunner v12,â Sanchez said. âThis solution leads the industry in integrating and managing the data produced by the myriad of systems that companies have had to acquire in order to manage complex energy requirements. V12âs capabilities offer an exciting development for the evolution of the industry.â
RiskAdvisory launched the latest upgrade of its ETRM solution, SAS BookRunner v12, last November. Now fully leveraging the SAS 9.2 platform, BookRunner v12 uses powerful access engines to aggregate data into one central data store, regardless of which system or external source produces it. This provides risk analysts the ease to interact seamlessly with any input as though it was native to their ETRM system. Users can then bring that data into SAS BookRunnerâs Analytics Workbench module to generate a broad range of predictive models, reports and risk dashboards on the fly.
