VanguardMS Introduces New IP VPN Access Router

Model 242D Provides Integrated, Low Cost Solution for Small Offices, Retail Outlets and Bank ATMs

Mansfield, Mass., Sept. 6, 2005 – Vanguard Managed Solutions (VanguardMS) today introduced a new multi-protocol IP VPN access router, Model 242D, as an integrated, low-cost alternative for small branch offices, retail locations, and banks with automated teller machines (ATMs) seeking highly-secure, cost-effective broadband access for their serial and IP applications. This unique feature-rich device is ideal for businesses migrating to IP-based network services that require advanced network security features for access to both private BGP/MPLS and public networks, but who wish to protect their investments in existing legacy-based infrastructures.

The Vanguard 242D router features integrated firewall and encryption functions. It also supports serial traffic, such as SNA and bisync, over IP networks, and relies on a high-performance architecture to provide Quality of Service for simultaneous applications by differentiating between higher and lower priority traffic.

"As businesses with small branches wrestle with IP migration issues, there are a host of business-imperative issues that come sharply into focus from a technology standpoint, namely network security, performance, quality of service, and cost," notes Rudi Willems, senior vice president and general manager, Vanguard Networks business unit. "The Model 242D was developed to address those key concerns, and to accommodate the many legacy environments still out there in the retail, banking, and other industries. And just as importantly, it allows customers a clear-cut migration path to future growth while containing current network costs."
