Morgan Stanley sweeps the board winning three awards while Reuters
scoops two

22nd September, 2005 - London - Financial News announced today the
winners of the Financial News Awards for Excellence in IT. The annual
awards, now in their third year and sponsored by Accenture and
Microsoft, were presented last night during a black tie dinner at the
Merchant Taylors' Hall in the City of London. Over 200 guests attended
the ceremony including senior figures from investment banks, market data
providers, technology vendors, consultants, analysts and the media. An
independent panel of financial sector specialists, including analysts
and consultants, were brought together by Financial News to judge the

The recipients represent some of the biggest names in the industry, with
Morgan Stanley, the biggest winner, being awarded 'Best European IT
Department of the Year', 'Most Innovative IT Initiative' and 'Most
Quantifiable ROI from Investment'. Reuters won two awards, 'Best Data
Solution - FX' and 'Best Data Solution - Equities'.

The judges' prize, 'Best Personal Contribution', was won by Kevin
O'Reilly, former head of strategy and IT at Barclays Capital. The
UK-based investment bank's ability to embrace technology and
partnerships has been integral to its recent record of strong growth.
Barclays Capital recorded pre-tax profits during the first half of 2005
20% higher than the same period the previous year. This growth was made
possible by the key role technology played in the global investment
banking arm which encouraged new technologies and partnerships.

Robin Smyth-Osbourne, a senior executive in Accenture's financial
services practice, comments: "I am deeply impressed with the winners
this year. Running cutting-edge technology programmes is not an easy
challenge, and these winners have demonstrated how getting technology
investment right is increasingly a key component of moving ahead of the
