Leading fund managers disclose top operational concerns for 2006

London, 29 November 2005 – Investit Intelligence, the research forum dedicated to the operational issues of the fund management industry, has revealed the largest investment management companies’ top operational concerns for 2006.

The 22 investment management companies who attended Investit Intelligence’s recent conference highlighted the following as their next three top concerns going forward:

- There’s a lot of negative newsflow creating confusion over the success of outsourcing. Investment managers need a clearer understanding of the reasons for success and failure and the best practice for considering outsourcing deals in the future.

- What are the potential consequences of the transparent reporting of costs incurred by managers on behalf of clients, when paying for research and execution? Investment managers will need to demonstrate the value they achieve for clients and how they will use, buy and manage research if it becomes a scarce resource.

- How should performance attribution be used effectively? COOs want to know if there are any attribution ideas that could provide better input to the investment process. How can attribution methodologies support emerging investment styles such as absolute return and liability driven investment?

Investit Intelligence is already conducting detailed research into each of these top three nominated areas on behalf of those investment management companies, which are members of the Investit Intelligence Service. Results of these comprehensive studies will be published in January 2006.

Catherine Doherty, Principal at Investit comments, "Fund managers have taken an active role in selecting these research ideas which demonstrate their commitment to improving the operational side of their businesses. The topics chosen reflect their immediate concerns within the industry. Our research is designed to assist our members in keeping ahead of the game and, at the same time, providing an insight into what their peers are thinking and doing."
