Air Command System International (ACSI) selects Sonic over TIBCO for performance, ease of integration

BEDFORD, Mass., January 20, 2004 — Sonic Software, the leader in distributed, standards-based integration, announced today that SonicMQ® has been chosen by Air Command System International (ACSI), a ThalesRaytheonSystems Company, for the NATO Air Command and Control System First Level of Capability (ACCS
LOC1) programme. The programme is designed to replace a variety of existing air defence systems in NATO Europe and provide force management, air mission control, airspace management, air traffic control, surveillance, and
air command and control system management. ACSI is the prime contractor for the programme. Sonic Software will provide the integration services layer between several major software applications.

ACSI selected Sonic over TIBCO (Nasdaq: TIBX) for the contract based on SonicMQ's superior performance, as well as for its overall ease of integration and administration.

"ACSI's selection of Sonic for the NATO project provides yet another example of truly superior technology gaining adoption in mission-critical scenarios," said Greg O'Connor, president of Sonic Software. "This win adds to Sonic's successes in government integration, which also include projects with the American Red Cross, Boeing Advanced Information Systems, Elections Canada, the City of Seattle and Northrop Grumman Mission Systems."

ACCS Programme
The Air Command and Control System (ACCS) is an automated system designed to support the operational and tactical command and control of air forces, Command and Control (C2) centers, and sensors assigned to NATO and the NATO nations. The basic functions of ACCS are: force management, air mission control, airspace management, air traffic control, surveillance, and air C2 resource management. In addition, there is a need for ACCS features such as deployability, information exchange, interoperability and communications. As such, ACCS LOC1 is a distributed system requiring a high level and secure application integration bus between numerous applications currently in use by NATO and the NATO nations.
