Kingland Systems data centers provide application services and order routing for national brokerage firms, connections to the national exchanges, and provides hosting services for two of the top five national auditing companies, running applications that ensure their compliance with Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) Independence regulations. Since 1997, Kingland Systems has been providing a Business Continuity capability for these customers through its use of a high availability architecture that ties its primary data center to KSC’s Disaster Recovery site.
In the past, Kingland Systems’ DR capability has been validated through weekend switches conducted on a monthly basis. Changing the schedule of the switches to occur during the business week confirms Kingland Systems’ ability to provide a true Business Continuity service. Jeff Gorball, a Vice President of Kingland Systems who runs their Operations department says, "We’ve been switching data center services on weekends for many years, and have refined the process to occur over a matter of a few minutes, with no data loss. Our decision to move the timing of the switches to occur mid-week pre-dates the events of September 11. Our data center processes millions of dollars in financial transactions every minute. We made the decision because we knew that we had to confirm to ourselves, and our customers, that a switch to the DR site could truly support normal business day operations. We’ll be exercising our DR switch during the week every month this way from now on."
David Kingland, President and CEO of Kingland Systems, says, "We set our mission to be a global provider of premier automation solutions to businesses and government, through the development of world-class software and technology infrastructure. This step of exercising our DR capability in a mid-week switch sets that standard."
Kingland Systems has recently expanded data center services in its 200,000 square foot facility in Clear Lake, Iowa to include providing third party Business Continuity services for others. "There is a real need for proven, quality DR service," says Gorball. We prove that we can deliver it in a matter of minutes every month. We are confident that we can extend the kind of capability that we’ve developed over the past 6 years to others"
